A List of Fun Things to Do While Stuck at Home

Play a board game.
Remember those old games gathering dust in the closet? Rediscover the fun of childhood with some non-digital entertainment.

Read a book.
Pick up a few good books from your local library. A good fiction book can immerse you into magical worlds of wonder. Other non-fiction books can change the rest of your life for the better. Here’s a few we love:

Transform a room in your house.
You know that weird formal dining or second living room in your house that you never use? Imagine if it was a peaceful yoga room, free of any furniture or objects except for mats that are always waiting for you. We re-purposed a room in exactly this way and it’s made our lives so much richer! If you have an extra bedroom for storage, turn it into something that supports your passions and makes your life better.

Finish or start a project.
You know that thing you’ve always been meaning to do but never had the time? Well that excuse is gone. It’s time to tackle it.

Call your mom, dad, or family.
If you’re lucky enough to have your parents, siblings, or people that love you, call them and check up on them. It’s the nice thing to do.

Do some yard work or landscaping.
Tame the wild jungle of your yard and add curb appeal to your home. You’ll get fresh air and exercise at the same time!

Learn a new language on Duolingo.
You’re glued to your phone all day anyways right? Why not learn that other language you’ve always wanted to. Duolingo makes it super easy to get started. We’ve been learning Spanish.

Downsize your life.
If you go through everything in your house and Marie Kondo your life, the joy you feel after is extremely freeing. Try it! If you’re not sure read this book and start with a closet. Believe us! It’s amazing!

Soak up some sunshine and Vitamin D.
Sunshine is delivered directly to your home every single day. Step outside and enjoy a little sunshine. It’s a natural mood booster.

Take a walk in your neighborhood.
When was the last time you walked your neighborhood and noticed the details of the area you call home? What kind of birds do you hear? What season are the trees in? What’s down that side street?

Visit your local park.
Whether you visit it regularly or not, your city park is always there waiting for you. You don’t need to go to a major National Park or State Park to have a healing connection with nature.

Sundowner at sunset.
There’s a reason sundowners are so popular. It’s the time of day reserved for kicking back and drinking something while watching the sun go down. It forces you to stop and relax. It doesn’t necessarily mean you have to drink alcohol, but just something that puts a smile on your face while you watch the sunset.

Dance like no one’s watching.
You’re home. No one is watching. Do a search on YouTube for the style of dance you’ve always dreamed of learning. We love salsa dancing. Learn the basics and when the world opens back up, you’ll be ready to try a class. It’s exercise, fun, and learning all in one.

Make healthy and delicious meals.
If you’re making fresh and nutritious meals, not only will your health improve, you’ll save money. You’ll also build skills and always have something delicious to eat! Harness your inner chef.

Spend quality time with pets.
The lifespan of a cat or dog is much shorter than a human. You are most likely the only life they will ever know from beginning to end. Spend some rich time with them and show them the love they give to you.

Take time to really look at your partner or loved ones.
When was the last time you really stopped and gazed into the eyes of your loved one? In our busy schedule, we often forget to stop and actually look at each other. Stop for a minute and truly notice the details and appreciate that they are there.

Stretch & meditate.
Stretching is a cornerstone activity that affects how we feel in all other parts of our life. We like putting on music and getting in a good stretch for a solid 20 minutes every day. Good flexibility makes you feel capable like a superhero and should be considered regular body maintenance. Take a few yoga classes and pick out the stretches that make you feel good and do them at home. Add in meditation as a bonus.

Play in your yard.
We have a cornhole set that we made years ago but only bring it out when we have people over for parties. It’s always a fun game when people come over but we never actually thought about playing it by ourselves. Wow. We’ve been missing out! It lightens the afternoon after work and gets us outside for some fresh air. Throw a frisbee, play catch, or anything else you remember playing in your yard as a kid.

Throw yourself a BBQ party.
You know that feeling when you step outside and smell the scent of someone barbecuing? Why not fire up the grill and enjoy a meal outside?

Learn how to ferment food.
Since you probably have a lot of fresh food after stocking up, learn how to ferment some of it like making pickles, drinks like ginger ale, and delicious sourdough bread!

Calculate what your expenses are for a year.
Now is the perfect time to get some insight into your finances. If you don’t know what you spend in a year, sit down and calculate it. It’s the first step in building your wealth. You’ll probably find that there are areas where you can free up money. Use the savings to pay down debt, grow your investments, and create a solid plan to give yourself more freedom. Maybe learn all about how to retire early?

Plant a garden with things you already have in the house.
Do you stock up on things like dried beans or fresh produce? Try planting various things to grow a small garden. Try planting the roots of green onions, seeds from quick growing fruits like strawberries or papayas, a pineapple top, or cuttings of fresh herbs. You’re probably not going to make much of a dent in your grocery bill, but seeing things grow before eyes every day is a fun, uplifting experience.

Armchair travel on YouTube.
Catch up on your favorite YouTube channels or discover new ones to fulfill the urge of travel and adventure. We love several including Mr. & Mrs. Adventure, Gone With the Wynns, and Kara and Nate. Don’t forget to subscribe to ours! 😉

Check in on your friends.
Do you know how your friends are? Touch base with them. It’ll strengthen your bond and show that you care about their well being.

Start a bucket list.
What do you want to accomplish in life? Start writing down a list of everything you’ve always dreamed of achieving whether it’s to DO, HAVE, or LEARN. Add to it regularly and work on checking things off the list. Life is mostly about showing up and getting started.

Learn something new.
Pick a new topic that interests you and go down the rabbit hole. You never know where your next life passion will take you unless you keep learning about new things. Check out “The Game Changers” on Netflix. You won’t be disappointed.
