While in Key West we were craving some serious adventure on the water! Well-known for its water sports like parasailing and snorkeling, one of the most exciting has to be taking a jet ski tour around Key West itself.
Sometimes it’s tough weighing the cost of activities, but we went to Key West fully expecting to try out all the fun water sports we could. I mean we had a new GoPro to test out after all! If anything was going to be challenging to film, it was definitely going to be launching over large waves and sharp turns while going 40 miles per hour on a windy day.

Now we’re all about saving money where we can on travel and vacations so taking some of these excursions can be pretty pricey. Shelling over hundreds of dollars for anything makes us think long and hard about the purchase.
We have a serious goal to reach Financial Independence by keeping our savings rate high. Excursions can be a weak spot for us because we love experiencing the fun things you can do while in places like Key West.
When we visited, a ninety minute jet ski tour around Key West by Fury priced in at $220 for a double rider jet ski rental. We were happy riding together and since we were going to be staying the entire week we found a way to save a huge chunk of money by signing up for the Key West Jet Ski Combo Package. The package cost $259.95 for both of us together and included jet skiing, parasailing, and snorkeling!
What a deal! Take our money!
If you’re visiting Key West and researching jet skiing and other fun things, you might want to consider signing up for a package with one of the excursion companies. Of course prices can change so be sure to do some research and price shop for a good deal. There are several companies that offer tours in the area so shop around. Also don’t forget to check for online coupons before signing up!
After gearing up, getting the safety briefing, and launching from the Sunset Pier, we headed out for our tour of Key West by jet ski. On the tour we headed clockwise around Key West and passed a lot of the beaches that we had previously visited. Just days before we were relaxing and hammocking and now we were speeding on the water around the island. How cool!
We also got to finally push our new GoPro to its limit and see what it was capable of. Check out the video and you’ll see what I mean! Sarah was having trouble holding the thing remotely steady and was sure most of the video would be unusable but we were blown away with the rock steady video. Wow!
After starting out at the Sunset Pier in Key West, we passed by Sunset Key, the Naval base, went under the Overseas Bridge (A1A), passed by the Edward B Knight Pier, Higgs Beach, Fort Zachary Taylor, Mallory Square, and took a few breaks where we jumped off our jet skis into the warm water while hearing some history about the island.
After ninety minutes of bouncing around, taking sharp turns, and getting sprayed by saltwater at forty miles per hour, we finally made our way back to Sunset Pier. It was an exciting ride and we loved every minute of it!
Sometimes you have to splurge a little to experience some of the exciting things that a location can offer and jet skiing is one of our favorites! How about you?
